Overview

Echinodorus cordifolius which is commonly known as the Radican Sword Plant or Marble Queen Radican, has multiple very large leaves. This plant is amphibious, and will grow out of the aquarium if not regularly pruned. The leaves are green in color, and the veins of the leaves are white and very pronounced.

Because of its size, 24" at maturity, the Marble Queen Radican should only be planted in a large aquarium that can afford this space. This plant will extend its leaves to the surface of the aquarium, where they will begin to float. Remove the floating leaves, to prevent the submersed leaves from dropping off, and the other plants from being shaded. This plant will thrive in a moderate level of light of 2 to 3 watts per gallon, provided by full spectrum bulbs (5000-7000K).

Reproduction within this species is by adventitous plants on the pindacles, and sometimes by seed. This plant will flower regularly in an open top aquarium, which may follow with the formation of seeds. The Marble Queen Radican benefits from regular additions of CO2, iron rich fertilizers, and trace elements.
