Overview

While guppies are one of the most popular freshwater fish with many standard varieties, the Pingu Guppy is one of the most striking varieties, treasured for its exceptional colorization. The males stand out, showing off splashes of bright blue on his head and pelvic region, while the rest of the body is either pink or white, finishing off with a vibrantly colorful yellow tailfin and caudal fin.

As always, guppies tend to be best in groups and are at home in a community tank with other peaceful tank mates. Because of their size, they are perfect for smaller tanks, requiring only a minimum 10 gallons per specimen. And they are highly social, so we offer them in groups of six or twelve, and they also get along well with other peaceful fish. Adult shrimp generally do fine as tank mates, but the guppies have a tendency to eat shrimp fry. Larger, peaceful invertebrates also get along with these guppies.

This beautiful ornamental fish also happens to be an excellent choice for a nano or planted aquarium due to its smaller size. Because Pingu Guppies occupy the top level of a water column and tend to jump, care must be taken to either maintain the aquarium at a lower water level or top the aquarium off with a hood or roof.

The Pingu Guppy does not come across as a very picky eater but does require a varied diet of meaty foods and vegetable matter for optimum growth and health. They take well to high-quality flake food, pellets, and frozen food.

This is a small, fast-maturing fish. Males grow to approximately 1 3/4”.
