Overview

The Lambchop Rasbora is a small freshwater fish with distinctive coloration. Multi-colored, they sport a transparent body with blue coloring on the underside of its body and yellowish coloring on top. They are named for the distinctive orange and black shape from mid-body to the base of its tailfin that resembles a lambchop.

A small active fish growing to only 2” at maturity, they add color as they dart around your tank and should be kept in schools of six or more. The Lambchop Rasbora is a great option for a community tank due to its peaceful nature. A smaller fish, they are at home in tank sizes of 10 or more gallons. Because they are hardy, they are a great option for both beginners and advanced enthusiasts.

Rasboras prefer an established planted aquarium. If you are interested in breeding the Lambchop Rasbora, you will need a separate breeding tank that is well planted with broad leafed plants, as eggs are laid underneath the leaves. It should contain warm, acidic, soft water at a shallow level. Pair a young female (9-12 months old) with a two-year old male and feed them live foods. After spawning, remove the parents and keep the aquarium dark until the eggs hatch (after about 24 hours). Feed the fry infusoria.

An omnivore, adult Lambchop Rasboras do well on a diet of prepared flake food, as well as freeze-dried bloodworms and tubifex.
