Overview

Soften pond rockwork and hardscape elements with the ephemeral charm of the Zephyr Lily Plant. The Zephyr Lily Plant is a tropical marginal plant also known as the Rain Lily, Fairy Lily, or Water Crocus. It is a compact plant that grows up to 12 inches tall with a 12 inch spread. The Zephyr Lily Plant has attractive ribbon-like leaves but is prized for its gorgeous, crocus-like flowers. The white 6-petal flowers measure between 1 and 3 inches across and bloom from late summer through fall. The flowers are set upon rigid floral stalks and glisten in sunlight and nod gently in the breeze, injecting a magical experience to the pond landscape. Though the flowers are often short lived, the Zephyr Lily Plant will bloom continually throughout the summer, typically a few days after a rain. For best effect, plant the Zephyr Lily Plant en mass and create an impressive drift along the edge of your pond. The Zephyr Lily Plant can also be used as a beautiful accent plant when tucked between rockwork around waterfalls.

For best care, pot the Zephyr Lily Plant in a 5-gallon planting container and set the planter in your pond or water garden so it is covered by at least 1 to 3 inches of water. The Zephyr Lily Plant does best when planted in full sun but will tolerate partial shade conditions. However, under partial shade conditions the Zephyr Lily Plant may not flower as often. In colder zones, bring the Zephyr Lily Plant indoors or house in a greenhouse with adequate light and water before the first frost. Do not water the Zephyr Lily Plant again until the spring. Return the Zephyr Lily Plant to your pond or water garden when outdoor temperatures are consistently 70°F or higher in late spring or early summer. The Zephyr Lily Plant will do best in plant hardiness zones 8 and higher but will survive in zones 6 and 7.
