Overview
Enjoy a living art installation all summer long with the delightful Rembrandt Water Lily. Also known as the 'Meteor' Water Lily, the Rembrandt Water Lily adds artful coloration to your pond or water garden. This hardy water lily produces gorgeous rosy-red blossoms showcasing a palette of pink and red coloration of varying tints and shades, making each peony-like flower a unique piece of living art. The red coloration is most intense closest to the bright sunset yellow center for a burst of incredible coloration sure to leave a lasting impression. The Rembrandt Water Lily flowers freely throughout the height of summer and into late autumn and makes a fantastic addition to ponds, water gardens, and container water gardens.
Even when it's not in bloom, the Rembrandt Water Lily provides fantastic visual interest with its ornamental, saucer-like leaves or "pads." Interestingly, the color of the leaves will vary considerably depending on its age. The striking purplish, maroon coloration of new or younger pads gradually transitions to a beautiful deep green coloration. Typical of hardy water lilies, the Rembrandt Water Lily produces round leaves with smooth edges. The leaf spread (or the amount of water surface area covered by the leaves) is approximately 5 to 6 ft providing much needed shade and protection for your pond fish, as well as a potential spawning site for pondlife.
The Rembrandt Water Lily should be potted in a two-gallon or larger planting container. To help your newly potted water lily establish itself faster in your pond, place the water lily at an initial depth of six inches below the water surface. As the water lily grows, it can be gradually lowered to its ideal depth of 12-18 inches below the water surface. Place your Rembrandt Water Lily in a sunny location where it will receive up to six or more hours of direct sunlight. However, the Rembrandt Water Lily can thrive in varying light conditions and will even bloom in partial shade conditions receiving up to four hour of direct sunlight. Zones 3-9.
LiveAquaria® offers two groups of Water Lilies: Tropical Water Lilies that thrive in plant hardiness zones 9-11 and Hardy Water Lilies that thrive in plant hardiness zones 4-11. Be sure to select water lily varieties the are hardy to your zone to enjoy long-lasting beauty.
