Overview
Add much needed color to your pond landscape with the Red Bog Lily Plant. Thanks to its dramatic coloration and compact growth habit, the Red Bog Lily Plant is fantastic as an accent plant that injects an unexpected "pop" of color to any pond or water garden. The Red Bog Lily, also known as the String Lily, Southern Swamp Lily, and Swamp Lily, is an ornamental cultivar with an onion-like bulb. The strap-like leaves have an erect upright growth habit and are approximately 2 inches wide and may reach from 18 to 24 inches in length. The architectural growth habit and brooding black/purple coloration of the foliage provides exceptional visual interest to your pond landscape. From midsummer into late autumn, the Red Bog Lily Plant produces rigid floral stalks that elevate and showcase a cluster of large pink flowers with burgundy pistils and stamens. The elongated flower petals add another layer of texture for a sensational floral presentation.
The Red Bog Lily Plant tolerates a wide variety of lighting conditions and can thrive in partial shade or sunny conditions. The Red Bog Lily Plant is a moisture-loving plant that can be located at the water's edge or immersed in water. The Red Bog Lily Plant is a heavy feeder and will benefit from regular fertilization. The Red Bog Lily Plant may reach up to 24" high with a spread of about 12" or more depending upon where you live. To maintain a neat appearance or to contain excess growth, pot the Red Bog Lily Plant in a 1 to 3-gallon planting container and set the planter in your pond or water garden with about 2 to 6 inches of water over the crown. In northern zones, winter indoors as a houseplant. Zones 9-11.
