Alkalinity Solutions

Alkalinity Solutions

Alkalinity is the term used to measure the amount of carbonate in saltwater. Carbonate acts as a carbon source for many marine animals and helps buffer the pH of aquarium water. In order to maintain proper pH levels in marine aquarium, we want to keep this level in the range of 8 to 12 dKH. Use our LiveAquaria® Professional Sodium Bicarbonate to maintain ideal alkalinity levels or our LiveAquaria® Professional Soda Ash (Sodium Carbonate) to effectively raise and maintain proper alkalinity AND pH levels.

Calcium Solution

Calcium Solutions

One of the most important aspects of successful reef aquarium care is maintaining proper calcium levels. Why? Calcium is not only vital for the health and growth of corals as well as many other marine invertebrates but also plays a crucial role in maintaining high pH needed in marine aquarium systems. In natural seawater, calcium is at a concentration of approximately 380 to 420 ppm. For home reef aquariums, we recommend maintaining a calcium level between 350 and 450 ppm. Use our LiveAquaria® Professional Calcium Chloride to effectively raise calcium levels in reef aquariums.

Magnesium Solutions

Magnesium Solutions

Magnesium plays a crucial role in helping to stabilize the correct combination of calcium, alkalinity, and pH values in the reef aquarium as well as supporting healthy formation of coral skeletons and desirable macroalgae growth. Although magnesium is utilized at a much slower rate than calcium, it is necessary to supplement this mineral from time to time especially in reef aquariums demonstrating active growth. For home reef aquariums, we recommend maintaining a magnesium level between 1250 and 1350 ppm. Use our LiveAquaria® Professional Magnesium Sulfate or Magnesium Chloride to effectively raise magnesium levels in reef aquariums.
