Package Contents | Quantity | |
Red Tuxedo Urchin | 2 | |
Nassarius Snail | 10 | |
Scarlet Reef Hermit Crab | 10 |
The Red Tuxedo Urchin has five to ten broad-colored bands with dark spines. This very striking color combination gives it a formal look, resulting in the name of Tuxedo Urchin.
During the day, it will hide among the rocks, in crevices, or under plants in a sandy substrate. At night, it will emerge to graze on the algae present in or near its home. As is true with other invertebrates, it is sensitive to high levels of copper-based medications, and it will not tolerate high nitrate levels. It feeds on algae found in its environment, but its diet will need to be supplemented with dried seaweed.
The Nassarius Snail is a little snail with a big appetite. This hungry critter glides through your aquarium foraging for food. The Nassarius Snail is an efficient scavenger and detritus eater. It has an oval, spiral shell that resembles an olive pit. The Nassarius Snail likes to burrow in the sand, where it searches for food and aerates the substrate.
It is easy to see why the Scarlet Reef Hermit Crab is one of the most popular reef maintenance pets and has a voracious appetite for detritus and algae. In fact, they are particularly fond of nuisance algae of the filamentous, hair, and slime varieties, as well as cyanobacteria. It is named for its bright red legs that are contrasted by its yellow face. These active scavengers can consume large amounts of animal matter and algae. If algae levels are insufficient, their diet should be supplemented with dried seaweed and other marine foods. With this ten pack, there should be an ample supply of empty shells available for them to move into as they molt and grow. As with all invertebrates, they do not tolerate copper-based medications and extreme fluctuations in water parameters.
