Overview
The Alveopora Coral is a large polyp stony (LPS) coral, often called the Alveopora Daisy, Flowerpot, Sunflower, or Ball Coral. The flower-related names stem from its appearance when its polyps are fully extended, resembling a bouquet of flowers. Each polyp has 12 tentacles and is commonly green; under actinic lighting, it exhibits a glowing effect.
While not an overly aggressive coral, the Alveopora Coral still needs space from other corals to avoid stinging them with its polyps, which can extend significantly beyond its base. Clownfish often associate with the Alveopora Coral, playing in its polyps when no anemone is present in the reef aquarium. Easier to care for than Goniopora, any species of Alveopora is an excellent alternative for novice reef keepers looking for a coral similar to the more challenging Goniopora. This coral thrives under low to moderate lighting and requires low water movement. To ensure continued health, regular supplementation with calcium, strontium, and other trace elements is necessary.
The Alveopora Coral's diet should include micro-plankton or brine shrimp.
