LiveAquaria is proud to offer hobbyists Biota Captive-Bred Blue Mandarins as part of our increasing selection of captive bred, sustainably raised and cultured aquatic life to stock your aquarium. Captive-bred Blue Mandarins have a unique advantage over wild-harvested species. They are hardier and more accustomed to conditions found in home aquariums. Therefore, they make a great choice for novices and seasoned aquarists alike.

Biota Captive-Bred Blue Mandarins, also known as Mandarin Dragonettes or Mandarin Gobies, are gorgeous fish extremely popular with aquarists because of their unusual beauty. Blue Mandarins provide a rich visual display of stunning jewel-tone colors of cobalt blue, amber orange, and emerald green in an intricate, maze-like pattern. Their quirky movements and curious personalities add to their appeal providing hours of captivating entertainment.

Blue Mandarins should be kept in a well-established 30 gallon or larger aquarium with live rock, live sand, and plenty of hiding places. They are moderately hardy in reef aquariums if given exceptional care. They are not overly aggressive towards other fish, except for conspecifics. The male Blue Mandarin is easily distinguished from the female by its pronounced, elongated first dorsal spine.

In the wild, Blue Mandarins are micro-predators that actively hunt amphipods and copepods. Biota Captive-Bred Blue Mandarins, spawned and reared at the Biota Marine Life Nursery in Palau, were raised Frozen Cyclops, along with 360-520 micron dry food mix and supplementing with live foods.

Looking for the best food to feed your Dragonettes? We recommend AlgaGen Tisbe biminiensis.

Excellent fish! I just purchased this fish for the second time last week. I bought this exact fish from AlgaeBarn about a year ago and the little guy has tripled in size since arrival! He's still in my nano reef today and has a fat belly. I can't wait to see how my brand new one does; she's already eating cyclops and brine! This is a fantastic alternative to wild caught specimens... The only downside is that their arrival size is tiny.
