Overview

*Liquid pH adjusters for raising or lowering freshwater aquarium pH
*Achieve acid or alkaline aquarium conditions to suit fish preference
*Recreate natural water conditions to improve aquarium fish health

Fast-acting, colorless pH adjusters that will not cloud water. API pH Up raises the pH of your aquarium, making water more alkaline. Great for African Cichlid aquariums and for freshwater tropical fish that prefer hight pH conditions.

API pH Down lowers pH making water more acidic. Great for freshwater tropical fish and plants that prefer lower pH conditions. Use 1/2 teaspoon per 20 gallons. 1 pint. For freshwater aquarium use.

API pH Down
Benefits
Lowers pH and makes aquarium water more acidic.

When to Use
Use an API pH Test Kit weekly to accurately monitor pH. Then, when necessary, use API pH DOWN to reduce pH levels in your aquarium.

Directions

  1. Determine the pH of aquarium water using an API pH Test Kit.
  2. Use dosing cap on bottle. To lower pH, add 1 ml for each 10 US gallons (38L) of aquarium water.
  3. Take another pH reading before adding another dose of pH DOWN.
  4. Some fish may be sensitive to pH adjustment greater than 0.2 in a 24 hour period, so changes of this magnitude should be done with extreme care.

General Information
Purpose and Benefits
API pH Down is a liquid pH lowering product for freshwater aquariums. API pH Down lowers pH by neutralizing carbonate hardness in the water.

Adjusting the pH to the proper level will improve fish health, disease resistance, coloration and breeding. While many common aquarium fish will live in water with a pH range of 6.8 to 7.5, a pH of 7.0 is ideal for a community aquarium containing a variety of freshwater fish. Livebearers like mollies and swordtails prefer a higher pH of 7.2-7.6. Acid-loving fish such as angelfish and neon tetras prefer a lower pH of 6.5-6.8.

Each dose of API pH Down neutralizes some of the carbonate hardness and lowers the pH. The pH may rebound up to the original pH if the carbonate hardness is high. Several consecutive treatments with API pH Down may be necessary to lower pH, but if there are fish present in the aquarium, the pH should not be changed more than 0.2 in a 24-hour period. The number of doses required to lower the pH will depend on the carbonate hardness level and the desired pH level. An aquarium with low carbonate hardness may require one treatment with API pH Down while an aquarium with a high carbonate level will require several.

General Information
Purpose and Benefits:
API pH Up is a liquid pH raising product for freshwater aquariums. By neutralizing acidic substances in the aquarium, API pH Up effectively makes the water more alkaline. The pH may rebound down to the original pH depending on the level acid in the aquarium. Several consecutive treatments with API pH Up may be necessary to adjust pH to the desired level, but if there are fish present in the aquarium, the pH should not be changed more than 0.2 in a 24-hour period.

While many common aquarium fish will live in water with a pH of 6.8 to 7.5, a pH of 7.0 is ideal for a community aquarium containing a variety of freshwater fish. Live bearers like mollies and swordtails prefer a higher pH of 7.2-7.6. Acid-loving fish such as angelfish and neon tetras prefer a lower pH of 6.5-6.8. Making a partial water change (10-15%) will also remove some of the acids and help stabilize the pH. Adjusting the pH to the proper level will improve fish health, disease resistance, coloration and breeding.
