Overview
The Snowflake Eel, also known as the Snowflake Moray Eel, Clouded Moray, or Starry Moray, is one of the most beautiful morays, and inhabits caves and crevices throughout the Indo-Pacific reefs. In the wild, it can grow to 39 inches; most captive specimens will not exceed 24 inches.
This is a very hardy eel, but an escape artist. A 50 gallon or larger aquarium with plenty of live rock and a tightly fit canopy is ideal. Most of the eels that are lost in an aquarium are due to poorly sealed tanks. The Snowflake Eel is safe to house with any fish it cannot easily swallow. It can be housed with some invertebrates, like anemones and corals, but not crustaceans.
The wild Snowflake Eel is a nocturnal predator, ambushing fish and crustaceans. In the tank, it will take frozen or freeze-dried krill, fish, shrimp, and most meaty foods. It can be taught to hand feed, although this should be done with caution, as it can inflict a painful bite.

Snowflake Eels are among the best eels around. I've got a 13-inch and an 8-inch Snowflake Eel, and they look large in my 55-gallon aquarium. I also have a Lionfish and two Damsels. My eels love to hide in a pile of Live Rock. Even though they are extremely aggressive, I absolutely suggest them for a true fish hobbyist.

I have just purchased a Snowflake Eel, it has adapted to the tank very fast and is already feeding out of my hand after the second day. I would recommend this Eel to any person with fish-only or coral tanks.

I have a 20" Snowflake and he is the funniest eel I've ever owned. He only takes shrimp+squid, but he insists on my son placing the food in the tank. He sees my son come up to the tank and he goes "bananas", pacing the length of the tank until he gets his food. He never tried to get out, but during the storms last year, he got himself trapped in the filter system. We placed him back in the tank and he was fine - hardy "little"guy. If you like eels, this is one to go for!

My Snowflake Eel loves to eat freeze dried shrimp. He eats two or three times a day. He likes live rock and care is easy. The eel is 12" long and gets along well with my other fish.

Definitely a good eel for beginners but be wary of tankmates like puffers and triggers as they may make it difficult to feed it a varied diet.

My Snowflake Eel is so cool. He's 8 inches and loves hiding under my live rock. I keep him with a 3 inch Panther Grouper and they get along just fine. I am also going to get a Antennata Lionfish, a One Spot Foxface and a Picasso Trigger. When my Snowflake Eel eats the brine shrimp, he is so cool to watch.

I love mine. He's a 21" big guy that lives in a 125 gal, with smaller fish he doesn't even care about but if I come near the tank, he wants his goldfish or krill. That's all he'll eat now. He's so gentle. Have been handfeeding since he was 4". Definitely an eel to get!
