Overview

Double your viewing pleasure with the Denver Water Lily. This hardy water lily produces gorgeous double blossoms in an elegant creamy white coloration sure to add a sophisticated element to any pond or water garden. The Denver Water Lily provides fantastic visual interest to your pond landscape during the height of summer and into late autumn. Many anxious water gardeners may consider the Denver Water Lily a late bloomer, but the wait is well worth it as you will be rewarded with voluptuous peony-like blossoms. The hardy Denver Water Lily is relatively easy to grow, making it a great water lily for ponds, water gardens, and container water gardens.

Even when it's not in bloom, the Denver Water Lily provides fantastic visual interest with its ornamental, saucer-like leaves or "pads." The color of the leaves will vary depending on its age but are typically bright green in coloration with maroon blotches. Typical of hardy water lilies, the Denver Water Lily produces round leaves with smooth edges. The leaf spread (or the amount of water surface area covered by the leaves) is approximately 4 to 6 ft providing much needed shade and protection for your pond fish, as well as a potential spawning site for pondlife.

The Denver Water Lily should be potted in a two-gallon or larger planting container. To help your newly potted water lily establish itself faster in your pond, place the water lily at an initial depth of six inches below the water surface. As the water lily grows, it can be gradually lowered to its ideal depth of 12-18 inches below the water surface. The Denver Water Lily does best in sunny conditions where it receives six or more hours of direct sunlight. Zones 4-11.

LiveAquaria® offers two groups of Water Lilies: Tropical Water Lilies that thrive in plant hardiness zones 9-11 and Hardy Water Lilies that thrive in plant hardiness zones 4-11. Be sure to select water lily varieties the are hardy to your zone to enjoy long-lasting beauty.
